DENTAL SEDATION
What is Dental Sedation?
To help patients feel more comfortable during dental procedures, we use a variety of techniques that fall under dental sedation. Our dentists can help you decide if a dental sedation option is right for you.
At Local 1059 Dental Studio, we do everything we can to help patients feel comfortable and relaxed during dental procedures. In addition to offering sedation options, we provide calm reassurance as needed, work at your pace, and take breaks when you need them.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide has a calming effect when inhaled through the mouth and nose. Even though patients remain awake and able to communicate, this medication calms patients and tends to lessen anxiety. It also increases pain threshold and reduces gag reflex.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives, which you’ll take in advance of your dental appointment. This medication is usually from a group of drugs known as Benzodiazapines. Oral sedation will leave you awake for the procedure, but produces a calming effect to help you feel more relaxed.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a controlled state of unconsciousness that eliminates discomfort, movement and awareness during dental treatments. This allows your dentist to complete complex treatments in one appointment while you are asleep. It may be recommended for oral surgery.
